A black wolf with light colored eyes and some white fur on its muzzle, wearing a tracking collar, looking towards its right.

Wolf, Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming. June, 2019.

I’m kicking myself for not nailing the focus on this one, but I was so shocked when I unexpectedly saw this huge wolf and three of its friends on the side of the road, I barely had a chance to shoot a few bursts through my car window before they all went on their way, and didn’t have the presence of mind to even check my settings. I swear there must be some primal, ancestral instinct that kicks in when you see a wolf, because so far no other wildlife I’ve seen in the Tetons has given me this kind of emotional reaction of just pure, intense awe.
